Meta sued by over three-quarters of the United States for “profoundly” altering “the psychological and social realities” of young Americans

24 October, 2023 — For years, Meta has viewed younger users as “herd animals.” A means to an end to fulfill profits and consolidate market power. We applaud the landmark lawsuit that dozens of state attorneys general filed alleging the company made its products more addictive over time to hook an entire generation of users. This lawsuit is the result of advocates, lawmakers, children, and parents sounding the alarm for years that Meta’s products are harmful to the youngest generations of America. And Meta had years to work with groups, like the Real Facebook Oversight Board, to improve the safety of its products. This is what independent, real oversight of Meta looks like.
